November 24, 2025 — The Upper Niobrara White NRD (UNWNRD) is now accepting comments on the flood control plan that has been developed for the Box Butte Creek Watershed. In 2020, the UWNRD and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) began to look at alternatives to address flooding in northeast Box Butte and west central Sheridan Counties. Several high-water events have occurred over the last decade including the floods of 2019 that impacted roads and other infrastructure in the area. Working with HDR Engineering, several options were considered.
Landowners and other interested parties are invited to review the proposed plan and alternatives on the UNWNRD website (www.unwnrd.org). Comments can be submitted prior to December 22, 2025 to Patrick O’Brien at obrien@unwnrd.org.
